STOP PRESS: New Junior Section of Wallington Chess Club

Wallington & Carshalton Chess Club has a long and successful history of entering adult teams in the Surrey Chess League & related Cup Competitions. This season we have risen to the challenge of setting up a Junior Section! For this we have acquired the services of a female international player who will act as the main coach/trainer, supported by three or four other club members. The trainer, Sabrina Chevannes, is a recognised English Chess Federation coach who currently works with the Kent Junior Chess Team.

We hope this new development will provide young people with a wonderful opportunity to receive intensive training to improve their chess skills and progress towards playing for a Wallington Senior team, compete in inter-school matches, enter local tournaments and eventually to play at county level or even higher.

We start our season on Thursday, 18^th September 2008. Sessions will last for 1.5 hours from 5.45pm until 7.15 pm. There will be a weekly charge, payable on attendance, of £3.00. It is expected that potential members of the junior club will already know the basics of chess and be keen to improve, possibly joining the main club in one or two years. Parents are also encouraged to visit the club and stay for the evening.
